Cantonese Soups

About

Soup the way Cantonese homes make it

Home recipes in our own words. The shopping done for you.

Cooling, neutral, warming

Cantonese cooks sort food by its nature (性): cold or cool foods are said to clear heat, warm foods to warm and nourish, and neutral foods sit in between. Each ingredient here carries the nature given by a published source. A soup’s label follows its main ingredients, and each soup page names its sources.

The “How’s your body feeling?” picker on the home page uses the same traditional labels. It is for fun and inspiration.

This is traditional food lore, not medicine. It is not medical advice. Ask a doctor before using food to treat anything, and be careful with herbs if you are pregnant, nursing or on medication.

Where the shopping links go

Each pantry item links to a product we checked on Amazon, plus searches on Weee!, Yami, H Mart and 99 Ranch that we checked return that ingredient. Prices and stock change, so check before you buy. Fresh produce, meat and fish are best from a local Asian grocer; Weee! delivers them in many areas.

Tick what you already have. “Add to Amazon cart” sends the rest of the pantry items to Amazon in one go. Amazon may ask you to sign in first. Weee! and Yami have no shared-cart link, so those open one item at a time.

As an Amazon Associate, we earn from qualifying purchases. Links never decide which soups or ingredients appear here.
